Gillingham Town FC has appealed for witnesses after the stand at their Hardings Lane pitch was set alight.
The fire brigade and police quickly attended the scene and no one was hurt in the incident which occurred around 9.45pm on Wednesday 31 October.
But the club say that ‘substantial damage’ was caused to one end of the stand.
‘This will be costly to repair, a cost that a volunteer organisation will struggle to meet,’ said a club spokesman.
The club believes that the fire started as a result of a discarded firework and have appealed for witnesses who may have seen what happened to contact the authorities.
‘This is the latest in a long catalogue of incidents and damage caused by youths who like to congregate in the stand,’ said the spokesman.
‘We recognise that the vast majority of the youth of today are respectful citizens and we would ask for their assistance in catching the irresponsible youths who caused this damage. If anybody an provide any information then please call the Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
