Coffee Companions, the scheme under which people who feel isolated meet up with others in a similar situation, is restarting in Gillingham after closing down for the Covid-19 epidemic.

The aim of the project is to help to address the widespread problem of loneliness and social isolation.

Mandy Greenwood, Gillingham’s Chat Champion says: ‘The news of lockdown and the necessity of social distancing felt like a blow for what I feel are basic human needs.

‘It felt sad that Gillingham’s weekly Companions Hours inevitably finished taking place as the public spaces where they happen were closed.
‘So I’m delighted that we are advertising the weekly venues and times shown. Government guidelines for social distancing will be in place and once again we can meet people we might not know already and enjoy each other’s company.’
Coffee Companions says it recognises that it is a big step for some people to join a group event on their own.
‘Please be thoughtful about offering to attend a Companions Hour with somebody who might only feel able to make that step with your support,’ says Mandy.
Details of the times and venues can be found here.
