Deb Wiltshire Fern Brook Lodge
New manager: Deb Wiltshire.

Staff and residents at Care South’s Fern Brook Lodge care home in Gillingham have welcomed a new Home Manager. Deb Wiltshire joins the passionate and hardworking team at the newly -refurbished residential and dementia care home.

Deb has been working in the care profession for 40 years, the last ten of which have been in the role of Home Manager. She trained as a nurse at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, where she specialised in district nursing. She was also a senior lecturer teaching student nurses in Cambridge.

Deb says: ‘I love making a difference, particularly for people in the later stages of their lives. I feel it is just so important to make this time as special as we possibly can for them – to make every day count.

‘Care South’s mission is to help residents continue to lead rich and fulfilling lives by providing them with Food, Fun and Friendship and these are values that really resonate with me.’

Courtesy of her nursing background, Deb is passionate about both end-of-life care and continence support and is keen to share her skills and experience in these areas with her team.

As Home Manager, Deb will be responsible for the smooth running of the home and making sure everyone receives the compassionate and personalised support they need, in a home-from-home environment.

Deb continues: ‘I like to support everyone to get the best out of themselves and to enjoy being here, whether that’s staff, residents or visitors to the home and I very much operate an open-door policy. I am looking forward to working with the experienced team here and getting to know the staff, residents and their families.’

Outside of work, Deb enjoys spending time walking her two rescue dogs and paddleboarding.

Commenting on her appointment, Aaron Whitehead, Director of Residential Care, Care South said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Deb to the team at Fern Brook Lodge. She brings a wealth of experience and I know our residents and staff at Fern Brook Lodge are in safe hands. Fern Brook Lodge is currently independently rated as 9.8 out of 10 on carehome.co.uk and we’re excited to see the home go from strength to strength under Deb’s management.’

Located in Gillingham and close to a good variety of shops, cafes and other services, Fern Brook Lodge is a newly refurbished residential and dementia care home, owned by not-for-profit organisation, Care South. With a secure private garden, plenty of communal lounges, on-site hair salon, coffee lounge and special local community hub, The Brook, the owners describe Fern Brook Lodge as a ‘warm and welcoming’ home.
