The new monthly street market that is to be held in Gillingham is to be called the White Hart Market.

The event, which will take place on the second Sunday of the month, will be run by the Salisbury-based The Anonymous Travelling Market.

It had been hoped the first market would be held as soon as August.

But Councillor Mike Gould of the Town Team – who have been negotiating to get the market – says that because road closure permissions are taking longer than expected ‘we feel the first date the market can realistically start will be in October’.
