Around 5,500 businesses in Dorset have now registered for either a small business grant or a retail, hospitality and leisure grant, Dorset Council says.

It is urging anyone who has already applied to be patient – and anyone who has not yet applied to do so as quickly as possible.

A Dorset Council spokesperson said: ‘We’ve paid £21m to more than 1,700 businesses and we’re working hard to get the rest paid as quickly as we can.

‘If you have applied online and have a case reference you should receive your grant within the next nine working days.

‘If you have not yet applied but think your business may be eligible, please check and register asap.’
