The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, has come to Gillingham to view at first hand plans for a major new housing development in the town.

Mr Javid visited the offices of Gillingham Town Council to see the plans for the so-called Southern Extension which will involve around 1,800 new homes being built to the south of the town.

He also met local community leaders to hear their views on the development and was then taken to see  part of the proposed site itself.

To find out what cabinet minister Sajid Javid said about Gillingham and its plans see the May print edition of Gillingham News.
