More than 50 members and guests of Gillingham Probus Club enjoyed a sunny day on Wednesday 21st August for their annual summer barbecue at the Crown Inn in Marnhull. The chairman, Nick Hall, welcomed everyone and thanked the organiser, Alan Poulter.

This event was the highlight of the club’s summer programme, which continues with a golf day at Long Sutton on September 5th, a visit to see the Hampshire v Somerset Championship cricket match at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton, on September 16th, and the annual date at the Lighthouse in Poole on October 27th for the performance by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Gillingham Probus Club meets on alternate Tuesday mornings at the North Dorset Rugby Club and new members are always welcome.

The speaker at the next meeting on September 3rd is Chip Chapman and his subject is ‘The Falklands War – My Part in the Downfall of Gen. Galtieri’. Then on September 17th, Dr. Ed Derbyshire will be speaking about ‘Space in Everyday Life’.
