Judges from South West in Bloom were in Gillingham on Friday 12 July as part of the town’s entry in the competition’s Pennant Award.

Last year Gillingham picked up gold and is hoping to equal that this year.

One of the centrepieces of the town’s attractions this year was a  display on Station Road’s junction with Le Neubourg Way to mark the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

This features an impressive life-size model of an astronaut made from two wire baskets, a spray suit and a plastic container.

Read more about the judges’ visit in the August issue of Gillingham & Shaftesbury News.
