hustings gillinghamElection candidates for the North Dorset constituency will be taking part in a hustings in Gillingham on Thursday June 27.

The event will provide a chance for local residents to listen to and question local candidates ahead of the general election vote a week later on July 4.

The hustings will run from 8pm to 10pm and take place at the town’s RiversMeet leisure centre.

So far, six of the eight candidates for North Dorset have confirmed they will attend.

The gathering will be chaired by Mark Walden on behalf of the local community charity the Three Rivers Partnership.

Mark, who is also a town councillor with no political affiliation, said: ‘I’m delighted that Gillingham will host a Parlimentary Hustings for the upcoming election.

‘As one of the fastest growing towns in the whole South West, Gillingham and its residents have the right to scrutinise our candidates, one of whom will have a vital role in the development of our town and its surrounding areas.’

He added: ‘I’d like to thank my volunteers and the RiversMeet team for their help and support to make this happen.’

Organisers say that as space is limited they recommend that anyone who wants to attend reserves a seat for free here.
