Gillingham has struck gold in the South West in Bloom awards.

The town won gold in the pennant entry, which is one step down from the full South West in Bloom competition. Other towns that got gold in the same competition were Taunton and Royal Wootton Bassett.

Gillingham also did well in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ (IYN) awards, with the railway station picking up a prize for being ‘outstanding’ and twelve IYN certificates in all being awarded.

‘We are very pleased indeed,’ said Councillor Belinda Ridout, one of the organisers of the town’s entry in the competition.

A special presentation will take place at the town hall later this month for those involved in all the IYN entries.
