A fire on a lorry carrying straw on the A 303 today near Mere caused traffic chaos today.

Five fire engines were called to deal with the blaze which occurred between the turnings for Mere and Stourhead.

At one point the westbound carriageway from Mere to Zeals was blocked because of the incident.

The westbound carriageway was later re-opened but as of 11.50am the exit sliproad for B3092 Zeals remained closed.
