Shaftesbury town councillors and office staff are to go through a dementia awareness session as the first step in making Shaftesbury a ‘dementia-friendly’ town, the town council agreed on Tuesday 6 March.

This is to be followed by formal training by the Alzheimer’s Society for both councillors and invited members of Shaftesbury & District Chamber of Commerce in supporting people living with dementia.

The move, for Dementia Action Alliance, follows mayor Councillor John Lewer’s declaration he wants to make Shaftesbury a dementia friendly town before he leaves office in May.

Dementia friendly charities in Shaftesbury are his chosen charities for the year.
