Gillingham Town Council and Gillingham Rotary Club are proud to be holding an event in
Hardings Park on 6 June 2024 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.
This event starts at 7pm, is free to attend and everyone is welcome to come along. If you
are, or know someone who is, a local D-Day veteran, the Town Council would love to hear from
you.
The event includes:
- A programme of music played by the Gillingham Imperial Silver Band and the Wessex
Military Band - A commemorative Drumhead Service
- A combined choir of students from Gillingham Secondary, Gillingham Primary, St Mary’s
Primary and Wyke Primary Schools - Gillingham Army Cadet Force Parade and review by the High Sheriff of Dorset and the
Mayor - Beacon lighting and reading of the International Tribute, which has been written especially
for the occasion
Period costume and the wearing of medals is encouraged.
As it is national Fish and Chip Day, Underwoods Fish and Chips will be serving from 6.30 pm.
Other refreshments will be available from the RiversMeet café.
In addition, and in line with the national programme of events, the Mayor will read The
Proclamation under the Oak tree by the bridge on the High Street at 8am.
