Mark Dawson does not have a publishing company behind him, but he is still a hugely successful author and tonight he will be sharing the secrets of his success at the first of the series of Autumn Talks at The Grosvenor Arms, Shaftesbury.

Mark, a former lawyer, began writing his best-selling John Milton assassin thriller series while on a 90-minute train commute. However, with publishers rejecting his novel, he decided to go down the self-publishing route and two years later this method started to really pay off.

‘My income – and my life – changed totally in 2014,’ he explains. ‘In January of that year I was making as much money from my books as I was from my day job, but by autumn I was probably making five times as much from my novels.’

Mark, who lives in Wiltshire, has never looked back and today writes full-time. An Amazon best-selling author – he has sold over one million books – as well as the John Milton series, he also writes the Beatrix Rose and Isabella Rose series.

Tonight, Mark will share his inspiration for his books, including his latest, Bright Lights, and how to self-publish successfully. The talk begins at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 and can be bought here.
