Tim Pears is the acclaimed author of the spellbinding West Country Trilogy, a trio of books that begins on the Devon-Somerset border in 1911 and over the following four years follows the very different fortunes of friends 12-year-old Leopold Sercombe and Lottie Prideaux.

At this talk Tim will speak about The Redeemed, the final, recently published instalment in the trilogy, and which was selected as a book of 2019 by The Guardian, The Scotsman and The Times.

Born in 1956, Tim Pears grew up in Devon and left school at 16. He worked in a wide variety of unskilled jobs including trainee welder,  assistant librarian, archaeological worker, fruit picker, nursing assistant in a psychiatric ward, painter & decorator, night porter, community video maker and art gallery manager in Devon, Wales, France, Norfolk and Oxford.

All the while he wrote, and in time also made short films. He took the Directing course at the National Film and Television School, graduating in the same month that his first novel, In the Place of Fallen Leaves, was published, in 1993.
