A woman has been arrested following a reported robbery at a supermarket in Gillingham.

It was reported that at around 3.15pm on Monday 6 May 2024 a woman stole a number of bottles of alcohol from the Asda store in Station Road. When she was challenged by staff inside the store, she allegedly threw one of the bottles toward a staff member, but it did not make contact.

She also reportedly threatened staff outside the store before making off from the scene.

Following enquiries by officers and an image appeal, a 34-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of robbery and theft. She has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

A police spokesperson said: ‘We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal.’

Dorset police have issued an image of a woman they are looking to identify following a robbery at a supermarket in Gillingham.

She was challenged again by staff outside the store and threatened them before making off from the scene.

Police Constable Lily Cambridge-King, of Dorset Police, said: ‘We take reports of violence toward retail staff very seriously and we are carrying out a full investigation into this matter.

‘I am now in a position to issue an image of a woman we are looking to identify as part of our ongoing enquiries, and I would urge anyone who recognises her to please get in touch.’
