Electricity firm SSEN apologise over Gillingham traffic delays

The electricity supplier Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has apologised to local residents and drivers over delays in completing roadworks in Gillingham.

Many motorists have been unhappy at the delays caused by temporary traffic lights at Rookery Close on the main Shaftesbury Road.

Some complain it has taken up to 40 minutes to go from Sydenhams on the Shaftesbury side of Gillingham to Peacemarsh at the other end of town.

A team from SSEN were called in to fix an underground cable fault which required the use of temporary traffic lights.

Although the repair work was completed some days ago the recent bad weather has meant the road has not yet been restored.

However, the firm says it hopes to have completed the works by the evening of Tuesday 20 March.

A spokesperson from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said: ‘We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience they may have experienced and thank them for their patience as our engineers work to repair an underground cable fault in the area and reinstate the road to its natural state.

‘Reinstatement works are currently underway and are expected to be complete by the end of today (Tuesday 20 March).’
