Councillor Fiona Cullen, mayor of Gillingham, at the Lodden Lakes play area.Gillingham Town Council has announced the successful transfer of the Lodden Lakes play area from developer Taylor Wimpey into public ownership.

This transfer marks a long-term investment in the wellbeing of local children and families, ensuring that this valued outdoor space remains ‘accessible, safe, and well-maintained for years to come’, says the council.

As part of the transfer, the Town Council has received a dedicated sum of money from Taylor Wimpey, allocated specifically for the future maintenance and upkeep of the site.

This funding will help ensure the sustainability of the play area without placing additional burden on local taxpayers.

Mayor of Gillingham, Councillor Fiona Cullen, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome the Lodden Lakes play area into the care of the Town Council. Well-designed play areas, like the one at Lodden Lakes, give children valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and stimulating environment.

‘They also help strengthen community ties by providing a welcoming space where families can meet and connect.

‘By securing this space, we are investing in the wellbeing of our youngest residents and helping to build a strong sense of belonging for everyone.’
