Families across Dorset are being reminded that there is just over a week left to apply for their child’s secondary or upper school place for September 2020. As it stands, nearly 500 children from the Dorset Council area still have not had an application submitted for them.

For children who are due to start secondary or upper school in September 2020, their parents have until next Thursday 31 October to apply for a school place.

Dorset Council is reminding parents that they must apply now to be in with a chance of securing a place at one of their preferred schools and that this year there is a change for parents in the Christchurch area. They will need to apply for a school place through BCP council school admissions team.

Councillor Andrew Parry, Cabinet member for Children, Education and Early Help, said: ‘It’s really important that parents apply for a secondary or upper school place by 31 October as it will give them the best chance of being offered a place at one of their preferred schools. We know last year 97% of Dorset children were offered their first choice secondary school, so getting those applications in is crucial.

‘Unfortunately, applications received after this date will not be considered until the late round in March 2020, so please don’t take the risk of leaving it too late.’
