As of Friday, 1 September, Dorset residents can apply for school places in 2018, whether their children are starting school for the first time or progressing through the education system.

For children who are due to start secondary or upper school in September 2018, parents have until 31 October to apply for a place.

For children who are due to start school for the first time, or are moving from infant to junior school or first to middle school in September 2018, parents have until 15 January 2018 to apply.

Cllr Deborah Croney, Dorset County Council Cabinet member for education, learning and skills, said:
‘It is really important that parents apply for a school place by the deadlines as it will give them the best chance of being offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

‘Unfortunately, any applications we receive after these dates won’t be considered until the late rounds in spring 2018.’

Applications made online will receive notification on the morning of the National Offer Days:

· Secondary offer day – 1 March 2018

· Primary offer day – 16 April 2018

All this information, including an online application form, is available at www.dorsetforyou.gov/school-admissions or families can call 01305 221060 for an application pack to be sent by post.
